If you are an ASP BBS member, please ZIP (or LHA) the three diskettes using
the names XRS450-1.ZIP, XRS450-2.ZIP and XRS450-3.ZIP - you're though! See
"BBS.DOC" on diskette 3 for appropriate descriptions to use on your bulletin
board. (Do not rearrange the disks, or the INSTALL.EXE program will not
function well - if at all. Users should extract the three files each onto 3
'clean' 360k diskettes and type "A:INSTALL" (or B:) from the C:\> prompt with
diskette 1 in A).
You should label 3 disks "INSTALL", "PROGRAM" and "QWK-XCS-NLS" respectively.
The "eXpress Response System" (R) ("XRS") is a complete Offline Reader Editor
system for bulletin board users. It supports both the native XRS "MailBag"
format used on "Fidonet" <tm> systems and also the 'QWK' format typically
used on "PCBoard" <tm> and similar bulletin board systems.
XRS allows you to select, compress and download message topics or areas you
are interested in reading, then read, reply (with optional quote) and compose
messages offline after logging off the BBS - at your liesure. This frees up
the BBS for more callers and saves long-distance or other phone charges. You
then pack your replies and new messages to upload on your next visit to the
BBS (and repeat the cycle). The "eXpress Conversion System" (XCS) programs
(on diskette #3) will allow conversions to and from many different formats,
including the QWK support.
Binary "Foreign Native Language Support" overlays in Dutch, German, Swedish
and French (also on diskette #3) may optionally replace the default English
version, completely transforming the program to the selected native language.
A full-function INSTALL.EXE program located on Diskette #1 allows users to
completely install and customize XRS for their particular hardware, therefore
** YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE DISKETTE LABELS OR ANY FILES ON THESE DISKETTES **
or the install program will no longer function properly, if at all! You may,
however combine all three 360k format diskettes onto one high-density disk by
following these instructions exactly:
1) Create a 1.2MB or 1.44MB diskette, with disk label "INSTALL" (no quotes!)
2) Copy the three 360k diskettes IN REVERSE ORDER - disk 3, 2, then 1 onto it
3) Delete file "INSTALL.STK", and rename the "INSTALL.HD!" file "INSTALL.STK"
Either way, delete both "VENDOR.DOC" and "BBS.DOC" - they are useful only to
you. In any case, you may not charge a fee in excess of $10 US or equivalent
for the three-disk set or single high-density diskette! XRS may be combined
with other programs on "CD-ROM" disk(s) as long as a free copy of said CD-ROM
is delivered to the author at 995 Buck Hall Landing, McClellanvile, SC 29458.
The registration fee for XRS is $30 US, and complete instructions for sending
registration forms either direct to the author or to my European distributor
are included in the package. Registration of the "eXpress Conversion System"
(XCS) programs is $15, or both registered for a combined price of $40. This
"license in perpetuity" - a one-shot registration covers all future versions.
Support for XRS and XCS are via the "Fido" conference QMX_XRS, on Compuserve
to user 76666,1512 (Mike Ratledge), or by mail direct from the author.
